Huligi(Munirabad)

ABOUT MY PLACE
MUNIRABAD :

This place used to be called ' Huligi ' , even now some people call in that name. There is an edict of 1088a. d. ChanukayaThilokya Malla of 6th Vikramaditya. Gave the village Huligi to Chowedibhatta gratis to Chowedibhatta, constructed a canal from Tungabhadra in order to help the cultivations. The present gigantic T. B Dam is constructed on this same spot. Located in Koppal District of Karnataka, Munirabad is a town on National Highway 63 between Ginigera and Hospet. It is 20 km east of Koppal and 13 km west of Hospet. It was earlier known as 'Huligi.'

Steeped in history, the place is still called as 'Huligi' by some people. An edict of AD 1088 obtained from here shows that the place was given to Chowedibhatta by Chanukaya Thilokya Malla. Chowedibhatta built a canal from Tungabhadra River to irrigate the crops. Later Tungabhadra Dam was constructed on this spot. Hampi, the UNESCO certified heritage site, lies close to Munirabad.
